Shortly after its inception, SABABC established its Scholarship and Bursary Program in recognition of the high cost of obtaining a law degree and the desire to assist in breaking down barriers to entry into law school. Each year, SABABC grants scholarship and bursary awards to law students of South Asian ancestry or law students with a demonstrated interest in the South Asian community who are currently enrolled in first or second year in the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria or Thompson Rivers University. The selection process is based on community involvement and academic merit, in addition to an original short essay for scholarship applicants and a demonstration of financial need for bursary applicants. The financial awards are issued from an aggregate of up to $2,000. The SABABC Scholarship Committee determines individual award amounts based on merit and the quality of applications received, with individual awards ranging from $500 to $2,000. Applicants may apply for both the scholarship and bursary.
We look forward to the continued involvement in SABABC of students of South Asian ancestry or a demonstrated interest in the South Asian community as they advance their legal careers.
