The financial awards have two components: a scholarship component and a bursary component. Scholarship applicants must submit an original short essay written on a topic concerning South Asians and the law. Bursary applicants must provide information documenting their financial need. Applicants may apply for both the scholarship and bursary.
Please fill out the attached application form. All applicants must complete Part A. Scholarship applicants must complete Part B. Bursary applicants must complete Part C.
Completed applications, together with all of the required materials (including academic transcripts), must be submitted via email to SABABC, c/o Hardeep Gill at firstname.lastname@example.org. Incomplete or incorrect applications will not be considered.
The deadline for this scholarship is November 15, 2019, and qualifying applicants should be notified by November 30, 2019. SABABC reserves the right not to issue any financial awards.
The awards are open to all law students enrolled in first or second year in the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria or Thompson Rivers University at the time of the deadline for applications. Preference will be given to those with proven South Asian ancestry (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) or demonstrated interest in South Asia or the diaspora.
A committee appointed by SABABC will review the applications and submitted materials and evaluate them on a number of subjective and objective criteria. Applicants may be interviewed by phone or in person by a member of the selection committee.
